J.M.C. Design Studio
A ground-up transformation of a raw commercial space into a working showcase of the firm's range — every element custom-detailed in-house.
Conceived from the ground up as a working showcase of the firm’s range, the J.M.C. Design office reflects a fully bespoke approach — every element of the planning, structural, electrical, plumbing, and finish work was custom-detailed in-house.
Visitors enter through 8’ custom glass-and-wood doors into a moody foyer of charcoal walls, large-format porcelain tile, and warm-stained millwork. A hand-scripted signature on wired glass nods to the studio’s craft-driven sensibility. Inside, a sculptural crystal-orb pendant anchors a dramatic skylight wrapped in faux alligator wallpaper — one of several material moments that turn the architecture itself into display.
The powder room layers a graphic birch-forest wallpaper with a laser-cut metal mirror, glass vessel sink, and reclaimed-wood vanity. A custom quartz reception desk grounds the open studio floor, where exposed bar-joist ceilings, salon-style gallery walls, and mid-century seating share space with a fully outfitted bar and kitchenette.
The principal designer’s private office is the project’s most personal expression: deep saturated blue walls, gold-leaf cork wallpaper, a custom live-edge desk, and a chandelier of antique brass lanterns salvaged from a Toronto church. Together, the spaces demonstrate J.M.C. Design’s signature blend of architectural rigor, custom millwork, and layered, collected style.
